That massive “Game of Thrones” Season 8 premiere audience just got more Mountain-sized.
AT&T CFO John Stephens said Wednesday morning that Episode 801 has now been watched by more than 27 million people. He also told media analysts and reporters that the week ahead of the fantasy drama’s final-season return led to the most subscriber adds in HBO Now history.
Those customer additions will be reflected in WarnerMedia’s second-quarter 2019.

No matter what Jon Snow (Kit Harington) says, the crypts at Winterfell are not safe.
Everyone who’s not fighting in Sunday’s epic “Game of Thrones” Battle of Winterfell is being sent there, but it’s a big mistake. The Night King is very likely to raise the dead who are housed there, among them Rickon Stark and Lyanna Stark, whose statue whose memorial statue we glimpsed last week.
Expect these “wights” — or reanimated corpses — to turn on the living.
That would mean an almost certain end for everyone down there, including Gilly Tarly (Hannah Murray) and her son, Varys (Conleth Hill), as well as Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) — and potentially Davos (Liam Cunningham). It’s unclear where he will be positioned but as he said, he’s not a natural fighter.
Game Of Thrones is set to notch up the death count significantly in the next episode, but someone’s demise may have been foreshadowed by Melisandre back in season seven. If you’ll recall, there was an exchange between Varys (Conleth Hill) and Melisandre (Carice Van Houtem) at Dragonstone in season seven, with the latter scarpering away from Westeros to Volantis. After hearing the news, Varys says: ‘Good. If you don’t mind my saying, I don’t think you should return to Westeros. I’m not sure you’d be safe here.’ In response, Melisandre says: ‘Oh I will return dear Spider, one last time. I have to die in this strange country, just like you.’
The eighth and final season premiere of “Game of Thrones” pulled in 17.4 million multiplatform viewers on April 14, setting a new series record and accounting for “the largest night of streaming activity ever for HBO,” per the pay-TV channel.
Episode 801, titled “Winterfell,” claimed that viewer tally when combining linear data, as well as that from HBO Go and HBO Now platforms. Episode 802, titled “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” scored 15.9 million multiplatform viewers last Sunday, according to HBO, declining 9% from that impressive starting point.
Interestingly, a teaser for the third episode in season eight shows Varys down in the crypts of Winterfell looking particularly troubled. Why’s this significant? While the show tried to convince audiences the crypts are actually very, very safe, it seems all signs are pointing to the exact opposite – with everyone seemingly forgetting how the Night King can raise the dead.
I love Jon snow
