DAZN has released the first part of "40 Days," an all-access series documenting Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and Daniel Jacobs' preparations for their fight May 4 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Canelo Alvarez will fight Danny Jacobs in a middleweight unification bout as the Mexican looks to add the IBF belt to his collection.
After two epic fights against Gennady Golovkin, Canelo stepped up to the super middleweight division and dismantled Great Britain’s own Rocky Fielding to become a three-weight world champion but comes back down in weight as he looks to add yet another big name to his glowing record of opponents defeated.
Meanwhile, the fighter known as ‘Miracle Man’ hopes to make the first defence of the IBF title he won against Serhiy Derevianchenko.

Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez drops back down to middleweight to take up the next toughest challenge possible in the shape of current IBF middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs. Canelo puts all of his super middleweight titles on the line which, on paper, produces one of the biggest Boxing spectacles of the year.
The fight will stream exclusively on DAZN; Alvarez signed a record $365 million deal with the company in October 2018.
Alvarez (51-1-2, 35 KOs) will defend his WBA and WBC middleweight championships against IBF titlist Jacobs (35-2, 29 KOs) in a unification bout. Alvarez is unbeaten since suffering the only blemish on his record to Floyd Mayweather Jr. Jacobs is on a three-fight winning streak, most recently beating Sergiy Derevyanchenko to win the IBF title.
Both men are at the top of the game with a wealth of experience and only three losses between them out of their combined 91 fights. Canelo moves back down a weight class but one of the most important stats is Jacobs’ height and reach advantage. Giving up a reach advantage has not proved an obstacle so far for Canelo, with dominant wins over Julio Cesar Chavez and Rocky Fielding in recent fights, but Jacobs also has all of the skills to seriously trouble one of the pound-for-pound kings and this is why there is so much anticipation for this bout.
Moretti also scored Alvarez a 115-113 loser to Golovkin in their first fight in September 2017 at T-Mobile Arena. That 12-round bout resulted in a widely disputed split draw.
Nevada’s Adalaide Byrd strangely scored that fight 118-110 for Alvarez, whom she credited with winning 10 of 12 rounds. The third judge that night, Connecticut’s Don Trella, scored it even (114-114).
As BoxingScene.com first reported last week, Jacobs’ team vehemently objected to Adalaide Byrd’s inclusion in the pool of available judges submitted to both camps by Bennett. Jacobs’ team also expressed opposition to Trella working his middleweight title unification fight against Alvarez.
Bennett did not submit Adalaide Byrd’s name Wednesday among the list of judges from which he made his recommendations. In addition to Feldman, Moretti and Weisfeld, Bennett chose from a group that also included Nevada judges Tim Cheatham, Eric Cheek, Robert Hoyle, Patricia Morse Jarman and Glenn Trowbridge, California’s Max DeLuca, New York’s John McKaie and Trella.
Bennett recommended Weeks from a group of Nevada referees that also included Kenny Bayless, Robert Byrd (Adalaide Byrd’s husband), Vic Drakulich, Russell Mora and Jay Nady.
DAZN will stream the 12-round bout between the 28-year-old Alvarez (51-1-2, 35 KOs) and the 32-year-old Jacobs (35-2, 29 KOs) a week from Saturday night. They’ll fight for Alvarez’s WBA and WBC middleweight titles and Jacobs’ IBF 160-pound championship.
One draw and one loss courtesy of Gennady Golovkin has created the only blemishes in their last 10 fights and these results are the main reason why Canelo will be the favourite. All three of these fights were extremely close, with many disagreeing with the judges decisions.
In March 2017, Jacobs' run of 12 consecutive finishes was snapped when he lost a unanimous decision to Golovkin and then in September the same year the Kazakhstani took on Canelo and fought to a very controversial draw with many backing Golovkin for the win. They met again for the rematch a year later where Canelo got the nod but this was also an incredibly close fight that split opinions. Ultimately, Golovkin got the better of Jacobs but not Canelo.
